Kilmacduagh The Glebe House/Hall-house This building is known as the abbots house. Glebe translates as an ecclesiastical benefice. It was built in the 14th century as both a bishop's residence and seminary for the education of priests. The structure was fortified sometime later and contains loopholes, a murder hole a guard tower. It is believed that sometime during its history there was a small garrison stationed at Kilmacduagh that would have resided in this building. Glebe House has been restored and the upper floors are open to the public if you acquire a key - see below for access information.

Situated: From Gort in Galway head southwest on the R460 for six kilometres. A key can be obtained, for a small deposit, from the Tower View Villa opposite the house. Discovery Map 52: M 4049 0017.
